Wait, I don't think I understand the question. If I'm getting it right, Mrs. Cook thinks that the Civil War started in 1776 because the issue of slavery wasn't dealt with at that time. They only kept it in so that the "alliance of convenence" would allow the colonies to break apart from Britain.

1776: Tommy Jeff, was one of many who wanted independence from britain. He was part of the Virginia dynasty, a group who were profitable lawyers out of VA. Important fact: Almost all of the economy in VA at the time was from tobacco, which white people didnt want to farm themselves. Background: The whites tried to convince Indians to do it, but they were smart and ran away, so the whites had to import slaves from africa.
i hope to god i am not rambling. The reason the Civil War tension was created in 1776 was because hypocritical TJ tried to outlaw slavery even though he had them! The Southern leaders, even though TJ was not included in this,liked their slave ownings because it made them money, much like it did TJ.
I would have to agree with Alex in saying that the whole contreverse over slavery could have been totally answered if back in 1776 the Declaration of Independence had specifically stated that slavery was un american and that all slaves were free. this would have most likely have destryoed the idea of the civil war
